I have been practising garden design since 1998 creating gardens which combine structure and formality with fluidity and naturalism. These have included town and country gardens. I jointly designed two gardens for The Chelsea Flower Show (2001 and 2003) and one for the BBC programme ‘Small Town Gardens’.
I am interested in creating a garden which will be a place of inspiration as well as a place of solace. This is done, I believe, by ensuring that the garden sits easily within its surroundings but also relates closely to the home. Year round structure through trees, hedges, shrubs and earth forms is key to providing a place of calm. Excitement is introduced through continuous changes in form and colour and through emerging seasonal plants. My aim in every design is to create a garden which, while having different elements, is appropriate to its environment so that it can thrive and feel at ease – to achieve this, attention to every detail is paramount.
I am generally involved in the entire process but am happy to be involved as much as required.
